RSM had opened four Open Day Shelters viz, Iew Mawlong Centre, Nongmynsong Centre, Mawblei Centre and Laitkor Centre for Children in need of care and protection, with the financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya. The objectives of the Open Day Shelter are as follows:
- To help keep children off the street and away from the unpleasant environment
- To provide a place to bathe and have a change of clothing
- To provide primary healthcare such as first-aid and to monitor the children’s needs for medication
- To re-integrate the child into the family system and the school system
- To provide counselling for children and families
