In order to facilitate the placement of orphan, abandoned and surrendered children for adoption, the J J Act empowers the State Government to recognize one or more of its child care institutions or voluntary organizations in each District as Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) for placing children in in-country adoption. RSM has been recognized by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya to be the first adoption agency of the State. This project has been recognized as the Lawei Baphyrnai SAA. Established on 12th July, 2013, located at Nongthymmai, Lum Sohphoh with a capacity of 12 babies, for children ages 0-6 years, with 3 full-time staffs members at the Home. Through SAA, the Ministry now facilitates adoption and foster care programme. Alongside, in order to curbed the rising number of Abandonment of children the Ministry have installed cradle points in different hospitals and Child Care institutes.
