RSM had opened four Open Day Shelters viz;
Iew Mawlong Centre – established on 12th October, 2012, located at laitumkhrah Bomfyle Road, with an average number of 39 children, ages from 2 – 18 years, with 3 full-time staff members.
Nongmynsong Centre – established on 3rd March, 2014, Located at Nongmensong, with an average number of 67 children, ages from 3 – 18 years, with 4 full time staff members.
Mawblei Centre – established on 1st February, 2015, located at Mawblei, with an average number of 75 children, ages from 5 – 18 years, with 4 full time staff members.
Laitkor Centre – establised on 4th April, 2023, located at Laitkor Mawarliang, with an average number of 85 children, ages from 3 – 18 years, with 3 full time staff members.
The centre is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm for Children in need of care and protection, with the financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya. The objectives of the Open Day Shelter are as follows:
- To help keep children off the street and away from the unpleasant environment
- To provide a place to bathe and have a change of clothing
- To provide primary healthcare such as first-aid and to monitor the children’s needs for medication
- To re-integrate the child into the family system and the school system
- To provide counselling for children and families
Main activities conducted in Open Day Shelters: awareness programme, life skills, health care programme, home visits, camps, basic counselling guidance, out of school programme, vocational training, sports.
